Feature Writer

The Role

Are you interested in writing about your local area for The 143 Edit online publication? 

 

Our Feature Writers will research, pitch, and produce stories that reflect the life of the Barnet/North London community. They will write in a range of formats, including features, interviews, comments, and event reviews/previews, following the brief and style guide provided by our partner newspaper. Writers will also supply supporting images, preview text, and a short bio for publication on the magazine website.

Responsibilities

Working as a Feature Writer for the 143 Edit will give you the opportunity to:

​

  • Pitch story ideas and develop them into publishable pieces.

  • Research, interview, and fact-check all material.

  • Communicate with Website Editors to meet deadlines and respond to editorial feedback.

  • Ensure work aligns with the partner newspaper’s style guide.

  • Explore optional multimedia formats (video, podcast, photo essay) if desired.

  • Feature, interview, opinion, and review writing.

  • Research and fact-checking.

  • Interview skills and working with community contributors.

  • Meeting deadlines and responding to editorial feedback.

  • Producing publish-ready copy for both digital and print contexts.
